Certified Chimney Cleaning & Sweeping

There are a variety of reasons to have your chimney system properly and professionally swept each year, beyond the fact that the National Fire Protection Association’s code 211 considers it a necessary and needed maintenance.

One big reason is creosote. Creosote is a highly-combustible deposit that can build up on the walls of your flue as you use your fireplace or stove. It takes on different looks – sometimes puffy, sometimes sticky — but always flammable, and always dangerous. When you use your fireplace, heated air travels up the flue, carrying gases and other byproducts with it. That air hits the chimney walls, which are comparatively cooler, and condensation occurs, leading to the formation of creosote. Although it’s virtually impossible to prevent creosote build-up entirely, Young’s chimney technicians can safely remove creosote, using the proper tools and methods so that your flue is once again clear and safe for use.

Another reason to have your chimney system professionally swept is that it serves as preventative maintenance. Chimney technicians can only truly assess the state of your chimney system when it’s clean, and soot and creosote aren’t masking small cracks or gaps. When a CSIA-certified Young’s Chimney Service technician sweeps your chimney, we’ll also perform a Level 1 visual inspection to make sure that hazards aren’t hiding in your chimney. This way, we know — and you know — that the chimney is safe for you and your family to use.

Certification from the CSIA is the only way to know for sure that a chimney sweep’s expertise has been tested and verified — we have the CSIA’s stamp of approval, so you can expect industry-leading service from Young’s Chimney Service.

Want To Know More About The Chimney Sweeping Process?

Chimney sweeping is an in-depth process that includes the use of specialized tools to produce a clean chimney system without transferring any mess into your home. Preparing For Our Arrival Is Simple

We’ll do all the work, but there are a few things you can do to help ensure a safe and easy chimney sweeping appointment.

First, avoid having a fire for at least a full day prior to our arrival.

Second, if you have any valuables or breakables that are placed within six to eight feet of the fireplace, consider moving them someplace safer. It helps to move furniture that’s right near the work area as well.

Lastly, bring your pets to a safe spot away from the work area and confine them there — they’ll be happier and safer.

A thorough chimney sweeping takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete, and when we’re done, you’ll have a clean chimney, and a thorough list of recommendations for optimal use and maintenance going forward.
